Our Mission
The Horwitz-Wasserman Holocaust Memorial Plaza (16th Street at the Ben Franklin Parkway).
Pillars:
1. Education
As Holocaust survivors’ numbers diminish, 3G Philly provides opportunities to learn from their stories. 3G Philly hosts public programming and awareness campaigns as well as programming for specific affinity groups Through its WEDU (We Educate) program (developed by 3GNY with guidance from Facing History and Ourselves), 3G Philly helps train grandchildren of survivors to share their grandparents’ stories to best impact a variety of audiences with a range of Holocaust knowledge. By partnering with local and national peer organizations, 3G Philly increases its capacity and expertise to encompass a range of topics, from the history of anti-Semitism and the Holocaust to today’s relevant issues.
2. Advocacy and Awareness
Antisemitism and bigotry have increased worldwide in the past 5 years. These instances have ranged from social media propaganda to violent attacks. 3G Philly produces educational materials and programs that expose these behaviors and explain historic and contemporary antisemitism. We work with peer organizations to spread awareness about these issues and to advocate for changes where appropriate.
3. Supportive Social Structure
As one of the last generations to have access and the ability to speak with eyewitness survivors of the Holocaust, 3Gs have a unique responsibility to carry their stories into future generations. This is not an easy task, and 3G Philly has created opportunities through social events and the 3G Philly Forum for members to discuss their shared family trauma in a safe and supportive environment. These programs allow 3Gs to discuss family history, to understand the impact this history has had on us and our families, and to support one another in building tolerance in our own communities. By creating community, 3Gs ensure the longevity of our family histories and the impact of Holocaust education.
