Learn how Holocaust Survivors living in Israel have been compensated by Germany and Israel from 1948 to the present day.
Nimrod Gornstein is an Israeli lawyer who served as a professional advisor on Holocaust Survivors policies for the General Director of the Israeli Ministry for Social Equality, in charge of compensations and social aid for Israeli Holocaust survivors. He holds a B.A in History and L.L.B in law from Tel-Aviv University, and studies the impacts of different Holocaust narratives and hierarchies of sufferings on the legal eligibility for compensations of Israeli Holocaust Survivors. He promotes an urgent change in laws regarding aid and compensation for survivors still living among us.
In his talk, Nimrod will give a brief history of how Holocaust Survivors living in Israel have been compensated by Germany and Israel since the establishment of the country in 1948 through present day. Nimrod will elaborate on the historical, legal and social contexts which created current discrimination in compensation rates between different groups of survivors, as well as address ethical questions regarding the definition of a ‘survivor’ eligible for compensation. This talk is does not require any previous knowledge and will include a Q&A.
